I recently learned about Vidaao (www.vidaao.com), an online marketplace for video production and video producers. I thought Vidaao would be of interest since many of our readers and customers on MusicRevolution.com (www.musicrevolution.com) are video producers or companies that also purchase video production services. This isn’t surprising since video is naked without sound or music. Video producers usually need music to complete their video or multimedia productions.

I had the opportunity to speak with Vidaao’s co-founder Justin Park. “Initially conceived as an online marketplace, Vidaao has created a community for video producers and is changing the way companies purchase and manage custom video production,” stated Park. “Our vision for Vidaao is to now become the online end to end video marketing platform for enterprises large and small,” added Park.

Vidaao is focused on streamlining and simplifying video production and the management of video projects. If you’re looking for a new source and a new way to purchase custom video production and video marketing services, you might want to check out Vidaao (pronounced “vi-dow”) (http://www.vidaao.com/vision). Vidaao also provides a free e-book entitled “Video Marketing Playbook.” This is a great resource to help guide you through the video production process which is worth checking out at http://www.vidaao.com/promo/playbook .

Or if you’re a video producer looking for new business and a new way to promote your services, you might also want to check out Vidaao (http://www.vidaao.com/sell-video) and consider joining their community.

The Internet and crowdsourcing continues to transform how businesses and individuals access all types of digital content (including video and music) and how they conduct business. Vidaao is another interesting example of this.

Background:
Washington State Artist Geoffrey Wilson has worked extensively as a session musician, musical director, composer and producer. With an impressive list of clients including FCB Worldwide, Van Nuys Airport, Xirlink, Contempo Design, Signature Music Europe, Conservation International, and many others, Geoffrey has vast experience writing for ads, corporate, and industrial projects, as well as feature films and documentaries.

 Some Questions We Asked Geoffrey:

–High profile projects or clients you have worked for?

Signature Music Europe, which led to radio and television placements acrossEurope.

–Primary instrument? –Favorite music-making piece of gear or software you currently use?

Guitar is my primary instrument. Piano and keyboards are my second. I love my Mac Pro Quad and Nuendo software in sync with my Yamaha O1V96 mixer.

–Piece of gear or software you wish you owned?

Custom made Thompson Guitar fromCanada. It’s the most amazing steel string acoustic guitar I’ve ever played for fingerstyle.

–Film score or song you admire? Why?

Prokofiev’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No.1. Besides being one of the most intensely dramatic and emotional pieces I’ve ever heard the changes and use of polytonality and rhythm are brilliant. Also, the piano technique is just insane.

–Music education background?

I have a Bachelor of Music in Composition from CSUN with classical guitar as my main instrument and piano as my second. I also spent time studying classical guitar at California Institute of the Arts, Composition at UCSB and Balinese and Javanese Gamelan atCalArts and UCLA.

–Memorable “Aha!” moment during your musical education?

Let the music write itself.

–Most embarrassing music-related moment?

I was doing a big show inSeattlewith a singer named Marcella Havel. I was on acoustic guitar  playing some difficult swing changes and somehow, someway I hit a really bad clunker. I put a big smile on my face and purposely did it again. The audience got the joke and started laughing.

–If you had a time machine and could record or perform once with any artist, who would it be?

Miles Davis.

–Moment you first knew you would be a musician?

Hearing the guitar solo in Jane by the Jefferson Starship when I was eleven.

–Advice you would give to a younger family member interested in a music career?

Always study technology as well as music.

–Five songs or albums you’d take with you to a desert island?

Yes – Relayer

CrosbyStills Nash and Young – So Far

Buddhadev Das Gupta – Raga Jaijaivanti

J.S. Bach – Goldberg Variations

Joe Pass/Joe Pisano Duets.

–If you could master another instrument, what would it be?

I’d like to spend more time working on piano music.

–Favorite time of day to work in your studio?

Morning.

–Any studio collaboration you experienced that stands out in your mind?  Why?

Yeah. My good friend Jake Feldman (son of the late Victor Feldman  of Steely Dan) and I had a crazy, unadulterated, Zappa-esk project that was the funniest thing I’ve ever played in. If I still lived inL.A.I would still be involved with the project just because of the nirvana of it all.

I once heard a story about a large farm property in Tennessee on which several families comfortably live.  They all belong to one family tree and dwell in single-family homes built on distant corners of the property. Thanksgiving holiday, I would like to imagine, is pretty awesome.

This relative utopia is entirely funded by…are you ready for this?… song royalties from “Grandma Got
Run Over by A Reindeer”.

When musicians get together, they don’t talk about music. They talk about money. And to me this story
reinforces the monetary value of owning a song, even a stupid one, that has permeated our culture.

Here’s another study case:

All of Weird Al Yankovic’s songs are legally considered “parodies” and thus he does not have to share
royalties with the songwriters he ridiculed. As a teenager, I couldn’t turn off these music videos fast
enough. But now, with two kids to put through college, I view Weird Al as a business genius. His
royalty-generation strategy was guaranteed to win before he even set foot in a studio.

And so one evening while jogging in the park a vocal chorus hook arrived in my head. It sounded like
Kelly Clarkson singing “Poooopy diaper, poooopy diaper” on top of a driving dance beat with complete and utter emotional conviction. Not a drop of irony in her delivery.

Several weeks later, again while jogging, another nugget entered my brain. This one was a straight
parody of 2 Live Crew’s “Too Much Booty in the Pants”. But in my version, they were saying “Too much
poopy….” (which is what I always thought they were saying anyway).

I would love to sit here and tell you the universe dropped a song in my lap that undoubtedly brings more love to our planet. A song about human relationships that bestows just one more sorely needed modicum of peace and understanding to mankind.

But it didn’t. It dropped “Poopy Diaper” into my lap and I’m gonna run with the idea. This blog is part I of a series in which I’ll document my experience writing,  producing and marketing a novelty song with one singular, and selfish goal….to own the publishing rights to a song that has permeated culture.

Stay tuned.

Doing basic music searches on www.MusicRevolution.com just became more fun. We’re proud to announce we’ve just overhauled the “Related Searches” feature that you see at the top of every page of search results. Here’s how it works:

Let’s say you’ve started your music search with the query “funky”. Your search results probably look something like this:

But imagine you’ve listened to a few of the tracks and they all seem off the mark. You need something different, but you’re not sure how to find it. Whenever this happens on Amazon they always show that handy list of “Related Searches”.  And if it’s good enough for Amazon it’s good enough for us.

Take another look at those search results, but this time look towards the top:

You’ve got four different “Related Searches” links to try. Each one will kick-off a new search for tracks that share some of the qualities of the first batch, but not all the qualities. Think of them as out-of-state relatives…who may or may not get along with each other.

Happy music searching!

There have been cases of wedding photographers getting sued for using music online and in their wedding videos that are produced for commercial gain. While a popular song might only cost $0.99 on iTunes, this is for personal use only, and not for commercial use. A wedding photographer/videographer might have to pay a significant fee (in the thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars) to use a popular music song in a wedding video or slideshow. A high-quality, royalty-free music track can keep you and your company legal and it can help you complete your wedding video or slideshow without breaking your budget.
